Why this matters
Digital transformation must be clinically safe.
Digital technologies are reshaping care across every NHS setting. They offer significant opportunities for patients and services – but also introduce clinical safety risks that require confident, consistent leadership.
Electronic patient records, clinical decision support, remote monitoring, digital pathways, automation, voice recognition, AI-enabled technologies, data-driven care and digital triage all need effective clinical safety governance throughout their lifecycle.
Clinical Risk Management for Health IT is not optional. Organisations deploying or using digital health technologies are expected to comply with NHS Clinical Risk Management Standards DCB0129 and DCB0160, supported by competent Clinical Safety Officers and robust clinical risk management processes.
